What got you into American Football to start with? Did you play any contact sport beforehand?

My mate got me into it in the second year of uni and I just loved it. Been watching since 2009.

What was your career like at the UniBall Level?

Had one year at City on a Masters in 2013/14. Thought I might as well give football a go. Didn’t expect much but played MLB and ended up defensive/speaking captain. It was our first ever season, so didn’t get any wins but enjoyed every minute. Can’t remember exact stats but highlight was getting 3 1/2 sacks and a fumble recovery in one half v Greenwich.

Why did you start coaching American Football?

I’m starting now. Adam asked and I loved playing for him at uni and have a lot of respect for him, so it’s a great opportunity to come down and try out coaching. I want to get back to senior ball (haven’t played since uni), and coaching will help me get an eye in/fitness back ahead of the season.

What advice would you have for a person interested in playing American Football?

Just go for it and enjoy it. There’s no pressure - most rookies have no experience of playing so you won’t be as far behind as you might think. Watch tons of NFL. Can’t stress enough how essential it is to understand the rules and the nuances of the game. You can be an absolute freak athletically (I’m certainly not) but if you don’t know what you’re supposed to be doing it doesn’t matter. It was for that reason as much as anything else I made captain at City. Have fun. It’s an incredible sport and the camaraderie is better than any other.

What are you looking forward to the most this season with the City Wolfpack?

Meeting all the new faces (coaches and players) and catching up with some of the old ones. City Wolfpack have come so far since my one season (including a name change) and can’t wait for the team to go even further.

Favourite NFL Team and why?

Arizona Cardinals. No reason really - picked them at random and it just stuck.

Favourite NFL Player and why?

Larry Fitzgerald - no explanation needed! Defensively, Tyrann Mathieu, JJ Watt and Von Miller. The latter two are just complete players who can dominate any game. Honey Badger is a playmaker who just has a knack for getting the ball.
