FORMER COACHES

The City Wolfpack (Sentinels) have been fortunate to have many great coaches guiding the team through the seasons.

Here are some of those who shaped the team considerably over the years.

Tim Palmer

- What roles did you hold at City and when?

Offensive Co-ordinator 2013-2015

- Who were the key players at the time you coached?

Stavros and Josh at QB, Hassan on OL.

- What were your favourite moment(s) during your coaching tenure?

Installing a new playbook and watching the players execute them as they were drawn up. The dedication of the team despite being a new squad and facing tough opponents. General team spirit off the pitch. Also, the coaches meetings in 5 guys.

- Are you still involved in football?

Not currently involved in football but will look for teams out here in Estonia now I'm settled.

- Will we see you coaching at City again in the future?

Not likely at this time - the commute from northern Europe is a killer.

- Who is your favourite NFL team and player?

My favourite NFL team is the New York Giants. No favourite players but love to see rookies step up and perform in their first season

Andre Esposito

- What roles did you hold at City and when?

I was the QB coach for the 2016 season.

- Who were the key players at the time you coached?

Hard to say being built a lot of relationships while there. In particular though, Nicholas was one of the QB's I got a chance to coach.

- What were your favourite moment(s) during your coaching tenure?

Well 2016 was my first year coaching, that whole experience in itself was a moment.

- Are you still involved in football?

To be honest haven't been in an organised league in a while. But the sport is forever embedded in my blood.

- Will we see you coaching at City again in the future?

Maybe. But I will say coaching and actually being on the pitch is hard to do.

- Who is your favourite NFL team and player?

Baltimore Ravens & Ray Lewis.

Graham Swanson

- What roles did you hold at City and when?

I was the OL coach and LS coach for the 2013 season.

- Who were the key players at the time you coached?

Hassan on the OL.

- What were your favourite moment(s) during your coaching tenure?

Seeing new players experience fooball for the first time. Enjoying the moments when techniques, assignments and concepts suddenly just click and make sense.

- Are you still involved in football?

I am currently on the BAFA board as Director of Business Development.

- Will we see you coaching at City again in the future?

I never say never, but I am no longer living in London, which makes a return in the near future unlikely.

- Who is your favourite NFL team and player?

The Denver Broncos and Terrell Davis.

Ross Clarkson

- What roles did you hold at City and when?

I was a DB coaching apprentice under Kap Ling during the 14/15 seasons, back when it was the Sentinels.

- Who were the key players at the time you coached?

I remember Akash and Aji being the key DBs.

- What were your favourite moment(s) during your coaching tenure?

The first ever City win against LSBU.

- Are you still involved in football?

I am very much still involved. I founded the QMBL Vipers in 2015 at Queen Mary University. I played for a season, coached QBs last year when the club was promoted to division 1, and now I am returning to play QB during my Masters.

- Will we see you coaching at City again in the future?

You will see me playing against City in this years scrimmage, but the Vipers aren't going to lose me to City any time soon.

- Who is your favourite NFL team and player?

I'm a Packers fan and have always admired Charles Woodson's game.

Chris Townsend

- What roles did you hold at City and when?

I coached the DL from 2013-2015.

- Who were the key players at the time you coached?

Akash Gulati, Hassan Jaafar, Sergey Kuzmin, Ody Stergianapolous, Will Kim, Kwame Sarfo.

- What were your favourite moment(s) during your coaching tenure?

The team scoring their first TD against Greenwich Mariners - the team had gone the previous 3 games without recording a point. When the first TD was scored, the pure elation on everyone's face is something that will stay with me for a long time. All the hard work was starting to pay off.

- Are you still involved in football?

I am still playing football. I'm currently playing TE at the Berkshire Renegades.

- Will we see you coaching at City again in the future?

I will never say never, I have nothing but great memories from my time at City. If I ever do get back into coaching it can only be for one team - the Wolfpack.

- Who is your favourite NFL team and player?

My favourite team is the NY Giants. I havce been following them ever since I got into football many years ago. My current favourite player is Odell Beckham.

Geoffrey Wong

- What roles did you hold at City and when?

Linebacker Coach 2015-16 & 2016-17

- Who were the key players at the time you coached?

Sean Holler (LB) & Joe Prentis (LB). Other key players in the team were Akash Gulati (DB), Evan Hargrove (DB), Nick Noeller (QB) and Aji Lawal (DB).

- What were your favourite moment(s) during your coaching tenure?

Finishing 6-2 in my first season with City. For a relatively new team that had only entered the league in 2013, it was a fantastic collective effort by all and something to be proud of.

Also seeing new students trying the sport in Freshers Week who didn’t know what a first down was and develop into key players is another favourite/reason why we coach at this level.

- Are you still involved in football?

Not at present. Taking time out due to the birth of our first child.

- Will we see you coaching at City again in the future?

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at City but having relocated out of London it would be unlikely. Never say never.

- Who is your favourite NFL team and player?

Favourite team – Cowboys. Favourite player – Luke Kuechly

Nedeem Al-Astrabadi

Neer Shah

Tosin Dawudu

Jesse Joseph

Luke Taylor

John Ellender

Ka-Poh Ling

Adrian Benn

Andrew McNulty

Sam Williamson

- What roles did you hold at City and when?

I was the running back coach for the team for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons.

- Who were the key players at the time you coached?

Key players I coached were Shawn Kim, Jan Niyazi and Sijie Zeng with lots of other key players dipping in and out.

- What were your favourite moment(s) during your coaching tenure?

Getting the 1st home win on the first game I was at as well as Shawn Kim getting the all-time rushing yards record. But there were loads of great moments.

- Are you still involved in football?

I'm not coaching anymore but I now work with the GB Lions as one of their physiotherapists.

- Will we see you coaching at City again in the future?

I don't see a return to coaching on the cards, but I'd open the odd but of physiotherapy if players needed it.

- Who is your favourite NFL team and player?

I'm a Jets fan for my sins. Player-wise I am an Aaron Rodgers fan. And now quite excited about Sam Darnold.

Robert Pye

- What roles did you hold at City and when?

I worked with City’s ‘Special Teams’ during 2015-2018, as well as helped out in general wherever needed (even playing Scout team so the young guys could beat up on this old man!).

- Who were the key players at the time you coached?

City U was fortunate to have a variety of good talent that I trained up as kickers, punters, holders, long snappers, and returners. So hard to say. Mario Borza was the longest lasting player during my tenure (two seasons), and he developed a good strong leg.

- What were your favourite moment(s) during your coaching tenure?

The same everywhere I have coached over the years, watching the players develop their skills and abilities as well as learning all the great things that American football teaches you.

- Are you still involved in football?

Of course. After playing D1 ball myself as a kicker/punter I wanted to give back. I have been coaching football – focusing on ‘Special Teams’ – since the late 1980s in the USA, working first at the high school level and later on coaching college ball. When I moved to Europe in 1992 I took a break from coaching. However, I got involved again with NFL Europe, as one of my players use to play for the Barcelona Dragons. I returned to the high school level in 2013, working with Orem HS in Utah (as a virtual coach). I joined City U a few years later.

- Will we see you coaching at City again in the future?

My experience with the British version of American football started by chance in 2014 when I found the City U team practising close to my home at Millwall Park…so I eventually volunteered to work with ‘Special Teams’. However, after giving three years of my time to the City team I think I am done. The cold wet English weather during the Fall-Winter really doesn’t work for me!

- Who is your favourite NFL team and player?

I no longer support the NFL for a variety of reasons. However, I still do enjoy watching High School and College football, which is actually a lot more fun as you never know what is going to happen.
